60 Stories for 60 Years – #54
I moved to Nashville, got married, and entered the teaching profession back in the early 1970’s. Our personal financial circumstances were always paycheck to paycheck back then. I remember that my wife and I found a beautiful, round oak dining table from a store down on 2nd Avenue, no longer there. But the cost was a “whopping” $100! We simply didn’t have the money, and my next payday was a week away. I went straight across town to the Hillsboro Village office (Educators Credit Union back then) and borrowed the $100, bought that beautiful table, and paid it all back the following week! We and all three of our children shared every family meal around that oak table until they grew up and left home.
