Maintain a practical budget
When students enter college, they are often overwhelmed by the freedom they receive. For the first time in their life, they get to make their own decisions. At this point in life, everything that a student has been taught will be put to the test. This can be either a positive or negative experience. The most important thing I can do to ensure that this is a positive experience is to create and maintain a practical budget. Making sure that I don’t overspend by keeping my expenditures less than my income is vital. In addition, I have to minimize the amount of debt that I accumulate to better prepare me for life after college. This is important to keep me from having to dig myself out of a financial hole which can take years to overcome. Going through college with a balanced budget, and with little or no debt, will put me in a better financial position for major purchases later in life, such as a home.
